Lucy Jones, a local aspiring illustrator blew up on social media with her handmade journals.
The 13-year-old artist had been painting for years, finding inspiration in illustrations she read from children's books when she was younger.
"I've always really liked drawing, and my parents are also authors," said Jones. "I do a lot of watercolour and painting in my drawing books."
Jones said that it's been hard for her parents to keep up with purchasing drawing books for her, so she began making books from scratch.
After a while, her mother Sarah decided to share the journal on a local Facebook page, asking if anyone would be interested in purchasing it. The post blew up on the social media page, with over a hundred people reacting to the post and leaving comments of support.
"My mom said that there was a bunch of people who wanted me to make more custom journals, and I just got straight to work," added Jones. "My siblings helped me out a bunch with getting all the bindings happening as fast as we could."
According to the young artist, she lost track of how many she made, guessing around 12. After paying off materials and her siblings, Jones got to keep around $120.
"I was surprised and excited."
Sarah made an update to her Facebook post thanking the community for their support.
