With new and returning members of the Horizon School Division Board of Trustees secured following the November 13 elections, the Division proceeded with the election of its table officers for the upcoming year.
In a release from the school division, the division welcomed Garth Anderson as Chair and re-elected Mark Fedak as Vice Chair. Together, the table officers play a key role in guiding the board’s efforts to achieve the division's foundational goals.
Trustee Garth Anderson expressed gratitude for the continued support, saying, “I appreciate the vote of confidence, and I look forward to working alongside my fellow trustees to advocate for student achievement while remaining fiscally responsible.” Anderson has served as trustee since 2023. He represents Subdivision 10 which includes schools in Foam Lake, Ituna, and the Twin Creek Hutterite Colony.
Vice Chair Mark Fedak also shared his appreciation: “I am thankful for the trust the board has placed in me. Together, we will continue to focus on Horizon’s vision and foundational goals to create the best learning environment for our students.” Fedak has served as trustee since 2016 and was elected as vice chair in 2023. He represents Subdivision 4, which includes schools in Drake, Englefeld, Lanigan, Muenster, and Watson.
Horizon's Board of Education is made up of 14 publicly elected trustees representing as many subdivisions. The organizational meeting is held each calendar year, in accordance with the Education Act, 1995. At this meeting, trustees determine table officers, discuss indemnity, incidental rates, and other organizational items.
