The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have secured a key piece of their roster, announcing the re-signing of veteran kicker Sergio Castillo to a one-year contract.
Castillo, 34, has been the Blue Bombers' placekicker since 2023, marking his third stint with the team. He began his CFL career with Winnipeg in 2015, returned via trade in 2021, and rejoined the team in 2023 after a season with Edmonton.
Named the Blue Bombers' Most Outstanding Special Teams Player for a second straight year in 2024, Castillo delivered a standout season.
He connected on 79.7 per cent of his field goals (51-of-64), converted 38 of 39 extra points, and set a new CFL record with 11 successful field goals of 50 yards or more.
Among his highlights were two field goals from an astonishing 60 yards, breaking a team record that had stood since 1975.
With this re-signing, the Blue Bombers ensure stability in their kicking game as they look ahead to the 2025 CFL season.
