The Town of Altona is taking further steps to prevent vandalism in frequently hit public spaces in the community.
Mayor Harv Schroeder says officials, in consultation with the Altona Police Service, have already installed CCTV cameras at the Centennial Park and Millenium Exhibition Centre.
"We've noticed that they've helped already. They are doing what they were went to," he said.
According to his October report to the Altona Police Board, Police Chief Dan Defer noted CCTV footage helped officers identify the culprits behind one incident at the park near the end of the month.
Schroeder noted, additional cameras could be set up in other public spaces if police begin to notice vandalism incidents elsewhere.
The cost of the surveillance system was paid for through the Province's Criminal Property Forfeiture grant.
