Throughout October, Co-ops in Humboldt, Muenster, Lake Lenore, Watson and Leroy held their fill the semi fundraiser to help the food banks in Humboldt and Lanigan.
On Friday, the Co-ops made a cheque presentation of $3,000 to the local food banks with the money they generated from the food drive.
Amy Shepard, the President of the Humboldt Food Bank was overwhelmed with the community support.
“We are just so grateful, and we’re always blown away by the support of our community by a program like this or an idea like this, we’re always astounded by the generosity of the community and the willingness of the community members to make things happen for us.”
The holiday season is one of the busiest times for the food bank, Shepard explains.
“A lot of busy seasons, Christmas is definitely one of them, but it’s one where people do think of the food bank, so we’re really well supported as Christmas, we have busy seasons in August when people are buying their back-to-school supplies, there’s just different seasons where people do struggle, but Christmas is definitely one of them.”
With the donation from the Co-op, Shepard says this gives the food bank an opportunity to stock their shelves with products like fresh produce and meat.
