A winner of the singing talent show The Voice is praising God he's alive following an accidental gunshot.
Jason "Sundance" Head won season 11 as a member of Blake Shelton's team, was on a solo camping trip on Nov. 15 when a bullet barely missed his vital organs but hit his stomach, his agent told USA Today.
Head shared what happened in a video posted to Facebook, saying that he always travels with a .22-caliber revolver, which he says looks like one that would be seen in a Western movie.
While he says he still doesn't know how it happened, he said, "It happened fast." The holster was sitting in the passenger seat with his backpack, and as he turned and started walking away, he was shot. “That revolver slid out of the case and it hit the doorjamb on the Jeep on the floor step and it shot me.”
He tried calling for help and reached to grab his cellphone out of his jeans when he discovered his pockets "were already full of blood."
Head knew that he needed medical attention and ran toward a fence, jumping it trying to reach the highway.
Eventually, someone stopped to help in what Head said was a miracle and that he had never been so glad to see somebody in his life. “I also want to thank the people that were on Highway 84 that stopped to help me,” he said. “Without you, I don’t think I was going to make it, man; I was bleeding out.”
Head's wife, Misty, shared to social media urging prayer warriors to pray for her husband after he was taken to the hospital and being treated by the trauma team.
Head thanked the "Good Lord above" and "Wonderful first responders" for saving his life after he was sure he was going to die. “It was one of the craziest things that ever happened to me.”
After she found out he was going to be ok, Misty said, "God is awesome." As for Sundance, he said "I want to tell everyone thank you for praying for me and my family. It was the most scary thing I’ve ever gone through, and I still have the bullet in me. I’m not sure exactly what’s going to go on. All I know is I didn’t die the day before yesterday, and I have another opportunity to live, and I feel like the Lord has blessed me just beyond I can even comprehend.”
They both asked for continued prayers as he heals.
