A homeowner in Plum Coulee got an unexpected wake-up call very early Friday morning.

According to the Altona Police Service, a man was banging on the caller's door at 4:30 a.m. and, when the homeowner answered, found the man in emotional distress and complaining of chest pains. The man also told the homeowner that he'd walked to Plum Coulee from Boundary Trails Health Centre, located between Winkler and Morden.

Altona police and paramedics responded to the situation, and medics returned the man to hospital.

Mistaken address

It was a case of mistaken address that beckoned Altona police to a local apartment building late Sunday.

Shortly after midnight, a tenant reported a man banging on their door, holding a firearm.

Once on scene, officers found the man in question and determined there was no firearm after all. In fact, it was toilet plunger, and the suspect was the building's caretaker.

According to police, a different tenant had notified the caretaker about a plugged toilet, and, after repeated texts, the caretaker responded - plunger in hand.

Unfortunately, the caretaker showed up at the wrong suite, causing the concern.
