With only days away from the Santa Claus Parade, Airdrie residents are reminded of road closures this weekend.

According to the Airdrie Parades' recently released map of the Santa Claus parade, road closures will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. and remain closed 30 minutes after the parade until 6:30. City officials are expected to provide more details on detours in the coming days.Image removed.

The city also reminds residents about other events following the Santa Claus Parade, including the CPKC Holiday Train stop in Airdrie next week.

The Holiday Train will arrive on Friday, December 13, at 5:30 p.m. on the east side of the CP track at Nose Creek Regional Park, located on Main Street. The event will feature musical guests Sofia Camara and MAGIC.

As parking at Nose Creek Park is unavailable this year and nearby parking is limited, the best option for getting to the event is the complimentary shuttle service. The shuttle will run between City Hall and Nose Creek Park from 4:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. Residents can also use Airdrie Transit, walk, or opt for rideshare services.

The first shuttle departs City Hall at 4:00 p.m., and the last bus from the Nose Creek Valley Museum will leave at 9:15 p.m.

Residents are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation to support the Airdrie Food Bank.

The same evening as the, Airdrie's Festival of Lights will be hosting Emergency Services Night from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Residents can meet local emergency services, including Airdrie firefighters, local RCMP, EMS, as well as members of the Airdrie Health Foundation, and STARS Air Ambulance. Booths and vehicle tours, will also be available.

Other holiday events include:

  • Monday, December 23:

    • Genesis Place will host a free public skating event with Santa from 1 to 5 p.m., where families can enjoy skating and take pictures with Santa on the ice. Skaters should bring their skates, and helmets are recommended for all participants aged 12 and under.

  • Tuesday, December 31 (New Year's Eve)

    • Airdrie will celebrate New Year's Eve with a family-friendly fireworks display at 6:30 p.m. at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park.
