Thursday night was the perfect weather for a tree lighting. Hundreds gathered in Civic Park, downtown Humboldt, for what’s become a much-anticipated seasonal event.
The community tree lighting drew the largest crowd since it’s return as an annual event several years ago. This year, the Civic Park Gazebo was lit up and the central point for much of the evening’s activity.
The night opened with a beautiful and inspiring performance by the St. Dominic School Choir. A few songs in, the youth choir was joined by the Humboldt Broncos and the singers from Futuristic industries for some well-known Christmas classic tunes.
Santa arrived right on schedule via horse drawn wagon. He and host Mayor Rob Muench headed to the master switch to give the flip that lit up the night and the community tree. Santa stayed for visits and photos until well into the evening.
While the line ups started for the horse drawn wagon rides through Humboldt’s downtown, the Humboldt Co-op took centre stage in the gazebo with plenty of hot chocolate and candy canes for the masses.
The tree lighting ceremony is the latest hallmark event celebrating the Christmas season, following on the heels of the Downtown BIDS Moonlight Madness and the Santa Claus Parade. Hat’s off to the City of Humboldt organizers and volunteer choirs, along with the Humboldt Co-op for a wonderful seasonal treat.
