Humboldt Broncos forward Connor Miller will have an extended absence from the hockey club, but it’s for a good reason.
On Thursday night, Miller was named to the Canada West team that will be participating in the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge in Camrose, Alberta.
It was previously announced that Broncos Assistant Coach Carter Hansen would be a part of the Canada West coaching staff serving as the team’s Video Coach.
Miller was one of three players from the Broncos who participated in the selection camp in Calgary this week, as forward Jacob Strizzi and defenceman Oakley McIlwain were not selected.
In his third season with Humboldt, Miller has 18 points (8G-10A) in 23 games.
There were four players from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) named to Canada West team. Joining Miller will be Flin Flon Bombers’ defenceman Luke Lepper and forward Koen Senft, Kindersley Klippers’ defender Jaxon Herchak.
Prior to the selection camp, the SJHL and Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) held the Western All-Star Showcase in Warman to determine the invitations for this week’s selection camp.
The World Junior ‘A’ Challenge features a Canada East team along with sqauds from Sweden and the United States.
Canada West will begin the round-robin portion of the tournament on Monday night (Dec.9) against Sweden. The playoffs start on Saturday (Dec.14) with the bronze and gold medal games wrapping up the event on Sunday (Dec.15).
