David Bracken has recently released his unique reimagining of the song “See Amid the Winter’s Snow.” When asked about his inspiration, David shared how he had never heard the song before.
“I was doing worship relief for a church in Winnipeg and stumbled upon this hymn while searching for music to perform. I had never heard it before, but its lyrics struck me as both timeless and powerful,” he explained.
Known for reviving lesser-known carols, David said, “Everybody does O Holy Night, and it’s amazing, but I love repurposing carols that are not as popular.” He reworked “See Amid the Winter’s Snow” to make it celebratory, turning its more somber tones into a vibrant expression of joy. Collaborating with Sexsmith’s Dove Fire Records producer Nathaniel Sterr, he found the process unexpectedly seamless. “Nathaniel’s contributions were phenomenal. He brought so much life to the song,” David said.
What makes this rendition even more special is the involvement of David’s family.
“If you listen closely, you can hear my son and daughter singing during the big group parts,” he revealed. It was a spur-of-the-moment idea while his kids had a day off school that turned into a cherished memory.
“I wanted this to feel like a gathering, full of joy and celebration,” he said. The song has already been met with enthusiastic feedback for its lively, heartfelt energy. “It’s a time to rejoice, and that’s what this song is about,”
“Christmas is about togetherness, and this song reflects that beautifully,” he concluded.
