Brian Doerksen and Marika Siewert have put together a brand-new online Christmas Special that all ages will enjoy.
Home for Christmas: The Heart of Christmas in Story and Song will air this Sunday, December 15, 2024.
Brian Doerksen says, “It's a streaming special, so once people get their link, they can watch it as often as they want for two whole weeks right through the Christmas season.”
Doerksen said, It's like a TV style. They’ll be multiple songs, guests, artists, and even couch chats. A highlight of the event will be Doerksen’s 88-year-old Dad reading the Christmas story from the Bible. Home for Christmas will also feature Marika’s daughter Zoey who will sing a new song written by Brian called “On the way to Bethlehem”.
Brian and Marika wanted to create a Christmas production that took the focus off Santa Claus and Jingle Bells and brought us back to the real meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus.
While their online special promises to be a lot of fun, Marika says they also wanted to address the topic of grief at Christmas.
“It’s something we don’t do so well in our faith communities. We always have a song that’s attributed to people that have lost loved ones. While it’s definitely a celebration of Jesus, it can also be a sad time for many people.”
The online Christmas Special is by donation so that anybody can participate.
Marika says, “You can donate 50 cents, or 100 dollars, it doesn’t matter, we just want people to join us to celebrate the season, and the reason for the season.”
