The Salvation Army in Grande Prairie has been a vital ministry in our area for over 100 years.

Grande Prairie Community Services treat all people with respect. They care for those by sharing Jesus, resources, and their story with them. They build the community by providing opportunities for people to belong. They walk with them through changes in their lives without judgement. Jesus gives us hope and as we live in this hope, they allow others to discover the hope of Jesus in their own lives by demonstrating love in action and words.

Grande Prairie Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign is making progress towards its $650,000 goal, with $160,000 raised as of December 8. This vital campaign supports local families in need during the holiday season and beyond.

Traditionally, two-thirds of the campaign’s funds come through mail-in donations. Due to challenges this year, mail-in donations can now be dropped off at a Christmas Kettle or the GP Salvation Army Food Bank for convenience. Donations can also be made online, directly into kettles, or using tap-enabled options for added ease.

The need in our community is greater than ever, with over 650 Christmas assistance applications received this year, compared to 530 last year. Additionally, one in five individuals relies on Grande Prairie Salvation Army’s Food Bank and Community Kitchen services.

The Salvation Army in Fort St. John has also been a vital ministry in the area since the mid 1980's, starting with a thrift store, then expanding into a church, food bank and emergency shelter. As of December 11, they have raised $101,609.94 so farm with a $150,000 goal.

Volunteerism is down this year, and more Christmas Kettle volunteers are urgently needed. Volunteers play a critical role in the success of this campaign. A heartfelt thanks goes out to the dedicated individuals who have taken on extra shifts to help. To volunteer, please call Julie at 780-296-3946 and in Fort St. John you can call 250-785-0506.

When you see a kettle, you can Tap $20, $10, $5 to donate at various locations even if there is no volunteer there.

Donations can also be made online at www.salvationarmygp.ca and in Fort St. John at https://www.safsj.org/
