Longtime Fort St. John residents Sharon and John Fehr flew to Calgary to spend two days - Dec. 12-13 - inspecting Operation Christmas Child gift-filled shoeboxes before they are transported to children in need in Central America, west Africa, Ukraine and the Philippines.

This is the fifth time Sharon made the long trip to Calgary to see how gift-filled shoeboxes are processed and prepared for transportation to children. It’s the second time for John. Before arriving, the Fehrs—packed 22 shoeboxes full of school supplies, hygiene items and toys for children who, in many cases, have NEVER received a gift in their lives.

“I enjoy inspecting the shoeboxes and I like volunteering, even if it’s not close to home,” Sharon explained. She and John have lived in Fort St. John for 33 years.

The Fehrs are Operation Christmas Child fans because they appreciate “the smiles on children faces when they receive the shoeboxes. It’s probably a new beginning for many of them because their families probably can’t afford the things in the boxes. And these shoeboxes tell them that God has not forgotten them.”

It’s not too late for Peace Country residents to help children in need. Just visit PackaBox.ca and pack Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes year-round, any time of day or night.
