Casey Kruse, a Strathmore swimmer with the Silver Sharks Swim Club, came back from a Special Olympics swim meet several weeks ago.
On Tuesday (Dec. 10), the Silver Sharks announced that Kruse had won gold in all six of the events she competed in.
According to Kruse, she began swimming due to her fear of water.
"I got rid of my fear the moment I got comfortable in the water."
The gold-laden swimmer said she wasn't surprised to have won in all six events.
"The only reason why is because I swam regionals in May of last year and got gold in everything, and I swam against the same swimmers," added Kruse. "It was a shock for me to get personal bests on my 200m and 100m."
Now that she's back in Strathmore, Kruse said that she's getting ready to compete in the provincial games that take place in Grande Prairie next July, while also preparing to enter the world games in 2027.
Kruse has been swimming with the Sharks for around 20 years, continuing her swim career into adulthood to help her engage in physical activity and focus on her mental health.
