It's been a busy year for everyone, including Strathmore Mayor Pat Fule.
Fule explained that there are multiple projects in the works for the town.
"The town has had a lot of things going on and I think it's more of an ongoing thing that I'm proud of, I'm excited about one of our strategic initiatives is affordable living and we have 180 residential permits that have been issued, and we've had some major projects through the planning and development phase."
The town has also been working on a seniors care community, a multiplex development on Park Lane, and a complex on 15 Bayside Place.
"I think Strathmore is just about to boom and have a lot of development," mentioned Fule.
With neighborhoods in Strathmore expanding, Mayor Fule says it'll be easier for people to buy and rent.
"We've worked a lot for affordability because we knew that there were a lot of people in Strathmore who are looking for affordable places to live right now, these kinds of expansions and projects will go a long way for people to find some good accommodation to either rent, buy, or build."
These projects are some of the big ones that the town will focus on in 2025, and a few more are on the way, but Fule says the town can't discuss them yet.
Fule said that Strathmore is moving towards a huge boom, but if the town keeps its sense of community, there is nothing to worry about.
"We're about to have a lot of growth and I think it's important to be able to manage that growth so that we don't just explode, and I know people are worried and stressed but if Strathmore keeps its character and its friendliness, we'll be okay."
Mayor Fule has met with Premier Danielle Smith multiple times on health care. He added that Strathmore could lead the way in health care in smaller rural areas.
"Strathmore could be a real medical hub. We could lead and help support Calgary hospitals because we could take some of the strain off them. I've always hoped we could do some minor surgeries at our hospital."
One of the other issues the town is most proud of is how residents handled the water situation back in the summer.
"All of us pulled together, we reduced our water consumption by an average of 25 per cent a day," said Fule.
Weeks ago, Strathmore Town Council passed the 2025 budget, which saw a 3.62 per cent increase in taxes on Strathmore residents.
Council and a vast majority of town employees had been looking into the budget for months making sure it was ready to hit the desks at council in December.
Mayor Fule says that having a zero per cent tax increase isn't necessarily the best option.
"Like a lot of people feel that you've got to have a zero per cent tax increase and that marks a good government. The inflation rate does not match any kind of tax increase like zero per cent. Like everybody, we have to face higher gas costs, diesel costs, cost of parts for machinery."
"When you have an inflation rate that's a lot higher than it has been in the past, it hits a town as well."
The town has also lowered a significant amount of debt as it heads into 2025.
Fule told StrathmoreNow that facilities like the Strathmore Municipal Building and the East Calgary Regional Water line will be paid off in 2025.
Strathmore's tax increase was lower this year compared to other municipalities in Alberta according to Fule.
Strathmore RCMP also tabled a report in front of council a week ago and it showed that crime was down across the board in Strathmore compared to other years.
"We have a very strong Staff Sergeant and his team. They have done an exceptional job getting their members out into various community events," explained Fule.
Fule feels the town is ready to start 2025 with bigger goals in mind.
