Canada Post has ordered workers back to the job starting on Tuesday (Dec. 17) at 8 a.m.
What does this mean for Strathmore residents?
According to Canada Post, the Canada Industrial Labour Board said mail operations will resume after finding negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) were at an impasse.
"Some limitations will apply for the first 48 hours after our operations resume – including for pickups and drop-offs. Because of this, we will not receive or pick up new products until Thursday, December 19," wrote Canada Post in a news release.
The terms of the collective agreements for workers will be extended to May 22, 2025, along with a five per cent wage increase for employees applied after December 31, 2023, for Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers (RSMC) and January 31, 2024, for urban employees.
There will also be a payment of $1,000 for all full and part-time CUPW workers and $500 for temporary workers.
"The wage increase and retroactive payment will be made no later than January 31, 2025," added Canada Post.
More details will be released in the coming days.
