Chestermere RCMP has arrested and charged a 14-year-old boy with the assault of another young teen along with uttering threats.
A news release says on Monday (Dec. 16) RCMP received a report that an assault took place in a back alley near Chestermere Lake Drive.
Police confirmed to StrathmoreNow that the victim was a young girl.
"A video of the assault has spread on social media and RCMP have received additional reports from concerned individuals who have seen the video," wrote police.
On Tuesday (Dec. 17) a young boy was charged and has since been released from custody.
RCMP charged another teenage boy under the Chestermere Anti-Bullying Bylaw with a $500 fine.
"This was the individual that we believe was videotaping the assault when it occurred," said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, Acting Alberta RCMP Media Relations Manager.
"Videos such as these are disturbing to watch. Chestermere RCMP want to assure the public that this incident has been investigated, and appropriate enforcement action has been taken," added police.
The first youth charged in the assault has a court date set for February 20, 2025, in Strathmore.
