Donations have kept pouring in to the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation even after wrapping up October's radiothon.
They surpassed their Heartbeat of Hope Radiothon goal of $150,000 by raising $161,990 during the 22 hour live broadcast.
Over $20,000 in donations have been added to the total since.
"It's been great," said Foundation Executive Director Kris Johnson. "People are continuing to donate towards the radiothon. We kind of exceeded what we had anticipated, and we've just had some generous donations after finishing up."
More funds mean they're able to help the cardiac unit even more than they had planned.
"Exceeding the goal is going to allow us to purchase two more pieces of equipment in the cardiac unit at the Swift Current hospital," said Johnson. "We are able to purchase a blood pressure monitor that attaches to the stress test console, so it makes it a lot easier for the doctors (and) more accurate testing."
They're also able to purchase a transvenous pacemaker, which has the ability to rapidly restore cardiac output and stabilize the patient in emergency situations, such as heart attacks.
That brings the total pieces of equipment purchased from radiothon funds up to six.
"It means the world to us as staff and as a foundation board of directors that we continue to be able to be successful and make an impact in southwest Saskatchewan," Johnson said. "We can't thank our donors enough. We have seen new donors come through our door, and that is just awesome to see."
Johnson also pointed out you can make a donation to the Dr. Noble Irwin Foundation as a gift over the holiday season. There is a donate on their website drirwinfoundation.com.
