The Strathmore and Wheatland County Christmas Hamper Society had their annual distribution day on Friday (Dec. 20).
Volunteers were working hard at the Strathmore Ag Grounds preparing hundreds of gifts for local families in need.
"We did 288 hampers and 378 toy bags, which is an all-time record," said Marilyn Galvin, president of the society. "It's really exciting to know that we've helped so many people this year."
Galvin said a tremendous amount of effort goes into preparing the hampers, as they aim to provide a child with at least one item from their wish list.
"The girls that worked that part of it worked endless hours this year."
Earlier this month the society was short on the donations that they needed, but in a matter of weeks, they managed to receive plenty of food, toys, and other gifts.
The society received help from the Strathmore Fire Department, who loaded the hampers and toy bags to families.
"They're just remarkable people," said Galvin.
Galvin told StrathmoreNow she's excited to take a break after distribution day. However, she mentioned that 2025 will be her last year as president of the society.
"It's going to be good for the hamper to have some new ideas, and I think it's important to get some younger generations in because it's getting harder."
This year's hampers consist of food, toys, hygiene items, gift cards, and more.
