The Springfield Xtreme have won 17 games in a row to start the 2024-25 season. The Xtreme defeated the defending Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League champion Steinbach Huskies 4-2 Saturday night in Oakbank. Easton Stoesz had a goal, and an assist and Charlie Mlodzinski chipped in with three helpers as the Ste. Anne Aces beat the East St. Paul Gators 6-2.
Teagan Fillion had four goals, and the St. Malo Warriors defeated the Lundar Falcons 7-4. Zachary Maynard, Keston Worley and Riley Tirschman also scored for the defending Capital Region Junior Hockey League champions.
The Eastman Selects shutout the Brandon Wheat Kings 2-0 Saturday afternoon in Niverville. Vayda Rigaux and Danyel Heppner did the goal scoring and Addison Tomes recorded the shutout. The Selects outshot the Wheat Kings 52-10.
Eastman jumped out a 4-1 first period lead and cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Pembina Valley Hawks in Beausejour. Grayson Slaney scored twice for the Selects while singles went to Calyb Moore, Josh Borgfjord, Seth Hooper and Lucas Laramee.
The Winkler Royals, Notre Dame Hawks and Red River Wild were winners in the SEMHL on Saturday night. Phil Letkeman scored twice, and Chad Unrau had three assists as the Royals downed the Morden Bombers 6-2. Christopher Lesage made 36 saves as the Hawks blanked the Springfield Winterhawks 3-0. Oliver Bonk, Calum Ritchie and Easton Cowan scored third period goals in Canada’s 4-2 victory over Sweden. Luca Pinelli also scored for Team Canada. Jack Ivankovic got the start in net for Canada and made 16 saves. Brandon Wheat Kings netminder Carson Bjarnason played the third period and stopped all six shots he faced. Canada will play its third and final pre-tournament game Monday against Czechia. Canada will open the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championship on Boxing Day in Ottawa against Finland.
Cole Perfetti had a goal and two assists as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Minnesota Wild 5-0 at Canada Life Centre. Neal Pionk, Nikolaj Ehlers, Morgan Barron and Vladislav Namestnikov also scored for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck made 19-saves for his NHL leading fourth shutout of the season.
Laura Stacey scored 15 seconds into overtime to lift the Montreal Victoire past the Toronto Sceptres 4-3. Ste. Anne’s Raygan Kirk got her first PWHL start and stopped 35 of 39 shots in net for Toronto.
