While there were many construction and financial highlights for the city in 2024, Swift Current also saw a number of successful events and programs.
Perhaps one of the biggest events was the November city election where Mayor Al Bridal was acclaimed for which he says he is thankful and appreciative to the citizens of Swift Current and the election also saw four incumbents voted back in as well as four new council members.
This year saw a very successful Market Square season as Mayor Al Bridal explains.
"We had a great season at Market Square again. We had the biggest cruising car show ever. The first time we partnered with the Rouge Cruisers Car Club and it was a great success, it was a wonderful day I was out for it and it was great to see."
Mayor Bridal also focused on a number of programs at local facilities such as various classes held at the local Art Gallery of Swift Current as well as the new permanent installation of a new exhibit at the Swift Current Museum called "Free and Fearless" which celebrates and traces the southwest military history from both World Wars installed thanks to a generous donation from the Van Allen family.
Mayor Al Bridal spoke on another event that took place here over the summer.
"Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hall of Fame they partnered with Saskatchewan Hockey to host the 2024 Induction Dinner this past summer at the Innovationplex drawing a large crowd to celebrate some big hometown heros like Patrick Marleau and Travis Moen but also celebrate some other people like the Kyle Elks and many other players and it was a wonderful event."
According to Mayor Bridal this event raised alot of money and they gave a little over $11,000 to Swift Current Minor Hockey as well as a little over $11,000 to the Southwest Facilities Foundation.
Many of the local programs offered by the city were also well attended in 2024. Mayor Bridal says there were over six hundred visit to Families In The Park, over seven hundred sign-ups to the multi-sports program and over eleven hundred visits to the Parks Play program. Not to mention a number of other city programs such as the Active Play program and fun days held on stat holidays and a number of Seniors programs.
