Self-defense courses were just part of the diverse offerings provided by the Prairie Sky Collective in 2024.

For the third year of its operation, the Prairie Sky Trails Association (PSTA) has continued to refine its offerings, providing a variety of community programs aimed at promoting physical recreation for all ages. Whitney Shussel, the director of the Prairie Sky Collective, shared the highlights of their year, emphasizing the success of their numerous initiatives designed to engage youth and adults alike.

“We had a wonderful year with multiple programs, ranging from youth activities to initiatives aimed at mature adults,” Shussel said. "One of the major successes was the Humboldt of Youth initiative, which ran twice this year. It was incredibly well-received, and we are proud of its impact.”

Additionally, the organization offered summer camps for kids and launched the Psych Up program, a youth initiative designed to promote physical recreation, sponsored by BHP. The response to these programs, along with self-defense seminars, has been overwhelming, with large turnouts and positive feedback from the community.

“We are thrilled with how all of our programs turned out,” Shussel commented. “We’ve seen great participation and are grateful to our sponsors for making these programs possible. Without their support, none of this would have been possible.”

The Prairies Sky Collective has received support from a wide range of sponsors, including BHP, the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA), and Nutrien, among others. These partnerships have been integral to the success of the programs offered throughout the year.

Looking ahead, Shussel hinted at new programming coming in the winter months, though details remain under wraps.

“We’re excited about the new programs we’re working on for the new year,” she said. “While we’re not ready to announce them yet, we encourage anyone interested in physical recreation programming to reach out to us.”

Shussel also took the opportunity to extend warm holiday wishes to the community.

“On behalf of everyone at the Prairie Sky Trails Association, we want to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season and a joyful New Year.”

For those interested in participating in future programs or learning more about upcoming initiatives, Shussel encourages the community to stay engaged and contact the Prairie Sky Collective for more information.
