The Happy Cat Sanctuary Society of Alberta has begun a fundraiser to help a sick kitten.
The society created a GoFundMe for Stapler, a tiny kitten who came to Happy Cat showing signs of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). This infection begins with cold-like symptoms before developing muscle weakness, shortness of breath, and paralysis.
"After witnessing FIP tragically claim countless lives over the past 20 years, we're finally able to attempt treatment for a deserving feline," wrote the society.
Happy Cat received help from a group of volunteers to provide Stapler with emergency medication, which has led to the kitten's help improving. However, the society is now looking to secure a 90-day treatment plan.
"His treatment will cost approximately $2,000, so we are asking for a buffer, so we can create an FIP emergency fund to help cover the cost of future cases and save more lives," said the sanctuary, claiming that they receive around four cases of FIP a year.
Helping Stapler began after the passing of Bodhi, a foster kitten who had a suspected case of FIP.
Since starting the fundraiser, Happy Cat has already received over $2,200 of their $3,000 goal.
