No New Year’s celebration nor resolution of wins for the Humboldt Broncos to start 2025.

The Kindersley Klippers spoiled the party in the first game back from the holiday break defeating the Broncos 4-3 in overtime at the Elgar Petersen Arena on Saturday.

Although parts of the game looked like the Broncos were relishing from a well needed holiday hiatus, in mentally frustrating fashion, traits of a subpar ending to 2024 still crept back into their game. Three separate leads were coughed up, costly turnovers were still hurting them, and the inability to hold on to any momentum or score the game’s biggest goal was still too present.

The Broncos and Klippers alternated goals throughout the entirety of regulation. Humboldt’s came from Jacob Strizzi (19), Michael Dowdall (3), and Connor Miller (10) all at even strength. The Klippers scored all three of theirs with an extra attacker of some form. A pair of powerplay goals from Dawson Karol, and a final effort, 6-on-5 game-tying goal with the goalie pulled from Zackery Anderson.

Miller’s marker came with 3:27 left in regulation, and at that moment somewhat signaled that the Broncos had scored the game’s clutch and timely goal, something they struggle so hard to find. However, it was all a mirage. With just 26 seconds remaining and the goaltender pulled, the Klippers and Anderson tied the game, extinguishing the impact of Miller’s goal, then defeated the Broncos 4-3 in overtime off the stick of Stein Dostal.

The Humboldt Broncos inability to win two consecutive games has now unfortunately continued out of the 2025 starting gates. Humboldt has not won back-to-back games since November 9th.

The Broncos will now host the Flin Flon Bombers for back-to-back games on January 11th and 12th
