The Junior B Agra Risk Wheatland Kings returned to the ice this weekend.

The Kings were on break between December 20 and January 3 as they celebrated the holidays.

"We as a team tried to stay on the ice as much as possible around the holidays," said general manager Cody Holdaway. "Just kept the guy's feet moving and continued to practice."

The Kings were back over the weekend for two games against the Cannex Cochrane Generals and the Red Deer Vipers respectively. The Kings came out on top in both battles.

"We defeated the Generals 2-1, and on Saturday we defeated the Vipers 4-2. That's two big wins to start the year," added Holdaway. "We continue to have a record-breaking season, and this just adds to the success."

The Kings now sit in second place in the division standings, just four points behind the Carstar Okotoks Bisons. According to Holdaway, there's a chance that the Kings take the top spot this year.

"We play the Bisons twice this month, so the way I see it, those games will be the deciding factor."

Next for the Kings is a game on Tuesday (Jan. 7) at 8 p.m. against the High River Flyers. The game was originally set for December 21 but was rescheduled following technical issues.
