Derek Fildebrandt, former MLA for Strathmore-Brooks will head back to court later this year despite being acquitted of charges against several teenagers.

According to Court of King's Bench documents, the crown wants to overturn the acquittals or order a new trial.

Fildebrandt was charged in April last year after he allegedly shouted at and chased several boys through his community in Crestmont because he said the teens were damaging his lawn ornaments.

However, Fildebrandt was acquitted of four counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm last year in November.

Fildebrandt was the MLA for Strathmore-Brooks from 2015-2019.

The incident happened on April 13, 2024, after Fildebrandt spotted a group of teens around his home.

The Agreed Statement of Facts mentioned that the boys ranging in age from 13 to 14 years old were waiting for a friend to go to a nearby convenience store to buy snacks.

Fildebrandt said he was concerned that his lawn signs were being vandalized.

That's when he came out of the house and started yelling at the boys, and one of them believed his cane was a rifle.

Fildebrandt then allegedly went into his truck and chased the boys around his neighbourhood, using the truck to block them in.

Documents mentioned that one of the teens was able to make it to a neighbours door and asked for help, saying he was being chased by a person with a gun.

According to the documents, appeal arguments are set for April.
