The Strathmore Municipal Library received thousands of dollars in recyclables during a bottle drive over the weekend.

The drive was held on Saturday, with library staff accepting drop-off donations while travelling around town picking up empties from residents.

Board Chair Ann Horn said that around half of the bottles they received were through pick-up.

"We had the people that were staying at home because it was so cold," said Horn. "We also had people who put it on their calendar, and they were going to make sure that they made it over with their bottles."

In total the library raised $2,176.25 through the bottle drive.

Despite temperatures being well below -20°C, Horn said that she wasn't bothered by the brisk weather.

"I used to be a hiker, and I used to do snowshoeing, so I had the equipment, and I was prepared for it."

According to the library, their goal is to support early literacy and literacy support for everyone.

Funds from the drive will go toward the library's operating costs.
