As the new year begins, a Strathmore psychologist offered advice on setting and sustaining resolutions.
Brittany Underhill believes it's important to set realistic goals to reach them.
"I think what's really important is always figuring out what your motivating factor is and then going from there," mentioned Underhill.
She also says it's essential to be honest with yourself when planning new goals for the future.
"The best way to make the goals would be small, baby steps," added Underhill.
According to Underhill, telling family and friends can help keep people accountable for achieving personal desires.
"If people do keep finding that they're failing their goals, it's important to figure out what limiting self-beliefs are getting in the way."
She said that if it's too challenging to reach these goals, seeking help from a counsellor or therapist can help people stay on track.
"Every year our clientele base increases, I'd say a lot more males are probably coming into counselling as well."
Underhill told StrathmoreNow there has been a spike in teen anxiety and one in three people deal with depression.
She mentioned that residents can seek advice at Wheatland County Counselling if they're struggling.
