Five people have died and thousands have fled their homes as wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles.

Several Christian artists, authors, actors and actresses have taken to social media to share their experiences and ask for prayer.

Candace Cameron Bure was devastated after driving past the home she owned for 30 years in the Palisades. Bure and her husband sold the house a year ago, and on Wednesday discovered it had completely burned to the ground.

"I woke up to the same flames. Our sweet Palisades is destroyed. So many memories. We are praying God pours rain down on Los Angeles. Thank you firefighters and first responders for everything you’re doing to keep people safe and fight these fires. You are true heroes. So many memories."

Meanwhile, best-selling author Karen Kingsbury is asking for prayer for her home state of California. She says she still has many friends and family that are in the area where the fires are worst.

"Please pray for the firefighters, first responders, homeowners and business owners who have been devastated by the uncontrollable wildfires in my childhood home - Southern California. In many places, fire hydrants are dry and winds have been too strong to launch an air defence."

"It’s unimaginable for those in the path of this inferno. Our Ted McGinley (John Baxter in the #TheBaxters TV Show on @primevideo) and his family were forced to evacuate from their home midday yesterday. And a few hours ago @romadowney (Elizabeth Baxter) had to evacuate her home. We have many family and friends still in the area."

Former Winnipegger Jodi King from Love and the Outcome sang "His Eye is on the Sparrow" as she thought of her sister and her family who live in the area.

"My heart is heavy," said Jodi. "Praying protection and comfort for everyone right now. I know there are fires burning all over the world. It can be hard to know what to do or how to help. Singing and lamenting at my new, out-of-tune piano this morning is where I had to start."

The fast-moving flames have destroyed nearly two thousand structures.

Firefighting crews from Quebec and British Columbia have joined the fight and have crews working to battle the fires. As well, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced today that he's directed officials to send every available water bomber to the state.

Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Washington state are also sending teams to help.
