2024 was a year with some chilly nights and scorching days, with Environment Canada taking a look back at all the data they got over the year.
That comes in from their stations across Saskatchewan, with some areas seeing different results this year.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins details the results of that work.
"Overall each of the stations we recorded here were on the warmer side, so anywhere between 0.5° and 1.8° above normal. Some of the top-ranking sites were la Ronge recorded their third warmest year on record, (they were 1.8° above normal). The second highest was Yorkton, 7th warmest on record, so they were 1.4° above normal."
Looking at the whole province and the year, Desjardins says the area saw a lot of warm air come through.
"Overall a warm year. Not entirely surprising, the winter last year was incredibly warm and not a lot of snow on the ground, and the summer was warm as well. There were a couple of months in there that were slightly cooler than normal, but yeah, overall warm year."
For precipitation, Desjardins says that most months saw less rainfall than they'd normally get.
"Lots of stations actually recorded on the dryer side. La Ronge came in at second dryest, as for precipitation, so they recorded only 70 per cent of their normal precipitation for the year, so that was a little bit interesting because they were one of the warmest and one of the driest years.
"Other stations were fairly dry, but they're kind of in the 15th driest to you 20-something driest for the other sites in Saskatchewan."
