On January 6, 2025, Philip Rudolph Baron hung up his cap a final time passing peacefully with his family by his side, entering the great beyond, likely armed with a thermos of coffee, a sly grin, and a knack for charming everyone in sight. Born September 6, 1931, to Henry and Barbara Baron on his families homestead just outside of Mankota, SK, knew from the start that life was meant to be lived with laughter, purpose, and a healthy dose of stubbornness.

In 1953, armed with little more than determination, Phil moved to Swift Current, where one fateful night at a party he met his wife-to-be, Beatrice (née Krause). October 1, 1955, he married his beloved Bea, and together, they built a life full of love, resilience, and a few misadventures along the way. Their marriage became a 70-year testament to enduring strength, love — and occasionally, strategic selective hearing.

In 1959, Phil purchased a plot of land and slowly built their forever home Swift Current. In 1963, Phil moved his now growing family into the little house. That little house became a temporary home, and favorite place to be for so many over the years, not only his own 4 children, but his nieces and nephews, their grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as all the friends the kids brought home.

Phil dedicated 40 hardworking years to the City of Swift Current. Phil knew every building, pipe, pothole, street and park bench by heart. A man of routine and integrity, he carried his sense of humor and practicality into every corner of his work, earning the respect and friendship of his colleagues. Even after retirement, Phil and Bea attended every City Christmas party until 2018.

Beyond his career, Phil was a master storyteller, a whiskey connoisseur, an accomplished fisher, camper and a backyard birdwatching enthusiast. If you asked him, he'd say his greatest accomplishments were his family, and his summer garden.

He leaves behind Bea, his partner in crime; brother Ernie (Donna), along with children Kerry (Susan), Blaine (Janice); grandchildren: Elissa (Royce), Dustin (Dawn), Jeremy, Jason (Brianna), Krystal (Ben), Sara (Craig), Kristin, Brandi (Owen); His great-grandchildren: Carter, Kaiden, Markus, Jacob, Lucy, Issabella, and Charlie, all who inherited his talent for finding humor in everyday life, his stubbornness, and his uncanny ability to fix anything with glue and sheer determination. Phil also leaves behind many, many nephews and nieces.

Phil is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Barbara; in laws Albert and Ida Krause; brothers: Harvey and Art Baron; sisters: Helen Baron, Alice Sparvier, and Anne Behler; children: daughter Charlene, son Terry Baron; brother-in-laws: Ronnie and Mervin Krause, Len Macone; sister-in-laws: Terry and Phyllis Baron.

Though his recliner is now empty, Phil’s presence remains in the little things—a perfectly grown potato, the sound of birdsong in the morning, and every corny joke that lands at the dinner table.

A time of visitation will be held at the Chapel of Warren’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 7:00p.m.-9:00p.m. A celebration of Phil’s life will be held in Swift Current at the Chapel of Warren’s Funeral Home on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 2:00pm with Reverend Annette Taylor officiating. A private family interment will take place immediately following the service. The family ask that you meet them in the Lounge at the Legion Hall for a time of fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, Phil would probably prefer you take a moment to shovel your walk or stop for a shot of whiskey in his honor.

Rest easy, Gramps — after 93 years, you’ve earned it.
