With a new year comes additional plans for the construction of Scotia Place.
According to a City of Calgary news release, last year in December the Calgary Planning Commission approved the design of the facility along with its final development permit.
"This significant milestone means that our next phase of construction will start right on schedule, once excavation is complete by spring 2025," wrote the city.

The city mentioned crews have dug down over 10 metres to lower the event bowl of Scotia Place.
"This design feature gives visitors a barrier-free experience between the main concourse and the outdoor plaza, providing street-level accessibility and integration with The Culture + Entertainment District. In early 2025, Calgarians will see more materials and workers on site as important underground utility work and installation of the foundation begins."
Work on steelwork and structural concrete will take place over 2025 and the foundation walls will be the first to go up followed by stairs, grade columns, access ramps, and elevator cores.
Staff with the city said the building will be able to host sporting events and concerts, along with a wide variety of outdoor and indoor events.
There will also be a community rink, food options, and retail stores.
The project is expected to be finished by 2027.
