The extreme cold warning issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) on Saturday (Jan. 18) has ended.

The warning was issued as wind chills between -40°C and -45°C entered the area over the weekend.

ECCC ended the warning earlier than expected, with the group calling for temperatures to warm up on Monday afternoon.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when temperatures bring the risk of frostbite and hypothermia.
