Strong winds are expected throughout most of the Peace Country today.

In Grande Prairie, west winds at 20km/h increasing to 40 gusting to 70 this afternoon. 

Dawson Creek and Fort St. John currently have a Special Weather Statement in effect. 

Residents can expect strong westerly winds of 60 km/h gusting to 80 this afternoon and into this evening with a risk of peak winds reaching 90km/h. 

Temperatures will rise to near freezing once the strong westerly winds develop. 

Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.
