The 2025 season of Made in Manitoba continues this weekend with a return visit from Ollee Owens, who we last connected with just over a year ago for her playfully named Christmas album "Home for the Olle Days".
Tonight the Calgary based singer-songwriter, who grew up in New Bothwell near Steinbach, has brought her new album "Nowhere to Hide" to share.
Describing it as infused with soul, blues and rock sounds, this latest project included recording it at two studios in Nashville, a big change from her previous 2022 album "Cannot Be Unheard" which was recorded and produced completely remotely. Her approach to recording "Nowhere to Hide", she says, was all about honouring those influences with an honest, old school, approach to recording…one marked by collaboration, live-off-the-floor energy, and perfect imperfection.
We'll as talk about why she chose to include a cover of Bob Dylan's "Lord Protect My Child" on the album. The story is tied to her family, and her daughter who has a cognitive disability.
There are eight originals on the album, including a couple she co-wrote with her partner Will, something we'll talk about, which will also tie into how Ollee feels she really grew as a songwriter during the creation of this new album.
It's Olle Owens and her latest album "Nowhere to Hide" on Made in Manitoba.
