FurFest will head back to Strathmore for its sixth consecutive year, this time with a special Valentine's Day theme.

The event, known for its celebration of dogs and their owners, will take place Saturday (Feb. 8) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Strathmore Civic Centre.

Kyla Janes with Rescued Paws at Alpine Foundation, says there are many exciting things to look forward to.

"We have an off-leash dog play area, kid's activities, vendors that are selling home-based items, and we have adorable adoptable animals through our local rescues at the Alpine Foundation and Happy Cat Sanctuary."

Janes mentioned the Valentine's Day twist includes decorations and a kissing booth with a photographer to take professional photos of people and their pets.

"The photographer can do pet photos, family photos, or whatever you want."

Janes also said there will be a dog groomer providing nail trims.

"All the proceeds for the entire day of all fundraising efforts are donated back to those rescues."

According to Janes, there will also be food available for pet owners along with a wide variety of dog treats for their pets.

"We've got pet vendors that make cookie treats, and we've got Beef Smoke House that has our kitchen all set up there with delicious briskets," added Janes.

Janes told StrathmoreNow that people are asked to bring a food donation for any of their community groups to take part in FurFest.

"If you don't want to give a food bank item then we do accept monitoring value," mentioned Janes.

Janes added that adoptable dogs will be at the event from Rescued Paws at Alpine Foundation and Happy Cat Sanctuary will have a table set up for anyone interested in adoptable cats.
