A man from Altona is out nearly $1,000 after falling victim to a scam.

According to the Altona Police Service, the man received a phone call from someone claiming they needed to work on his computer. After he complied with the caller's requests, the scammer was able to defraud him out of $900.

This is just one example of the ongoing attempts being made to bilk area residents.

Earlier this week, a pharmacy in Altona took to social media warning customers of fraudulent calls coming from people pretending to be from the business, contacting people about medication deliveries or payment for services.

Again, if you receive such a call, or any other suspicious communication including text messages and emails, police stress to not share any personal information and instead, hang up immediately and/or delete the message.
