Derrick Ford, goalie for the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings Junior B hockey team, has been recognized as being the second-best goalie in the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL).

Throughout the season, Ford has garnered a record of 13-4 with a Goals Against Average (GAA) of 2.01, along with four shutouts.

"It's been a lot of fun. There hasn't really been a whole lot of downs for us this year, and we've been a lot more consistent than most years," said Ford. "The defence is playing really well in front of me, and we're all playing as a team and having a lot of success."

Ford wasn't the only King to make it into the top five goalies in the HJHL. Rhett Harten made it into the fifth spot with a GAA of 2.65 and one shutout.

"I've never had a goalie partner who has been at the top with me before," added Ford. "I've never been at the top of a league myself. It's pretty cool that we're a strong tandem this year."

The Kings have had a historic season, making it to second place in their division, right behind the Carstar Okotoks Bisons.

"We're trying to at least stay in second place above the Medicine Hat Cubs so that we have home ice over them in the first round, but if we could beat out Okotoks for the first-place spot, that would be excellent."

The Kings are currently 24-7-1 this season, with their next game taking place on Friday (Jan. 24) against the High River Flyers.

Puck drop is at 8:15 p.m.
