It is with great sadness that the family of Allen Fahselt of Cabri, Saskatchewan announce his passing on January 25, 2025 surrounded by his family. No formal service will be held at this time.

Born to George and Dorothy Fahselt in Cabri on May 2, 1944, Allen was the kindest of characters.

In his earlier years, although he performed well as a student, he believed school was for time with friends - not so much for the pursuit of education. As a teen, he worked with his dad on the farm. A great source of pride for him was building the grain elevator together. Once he left school, he went to Calgary and pursued employment in the electrical field. His work was respected by his employer, and he continued to work winters there until farming became his permanent vocation.

He met Brenda Anderson of Stewart Valley when she was teaching in Pennant. They married and had two children: Sherri (of Swift Current) and David (of Moose Jaw).

Allen and Brenda had opposite time off during the year (the farmer and teacher calendars) which usually meant family ski trips during school vacations.

He would always welcome friends and neighbours with “a cold one” as they’d stop by when he was tinkering in the shop. Music played continuously in the shop - old country or 50’s/60’s rock. Sometimes he would pull out the guitar a few drinks in, either around the campfire or in the living room.

He curled many years and collected many trophies in various bonspiels across the province. Allen was involved in establishing Cabri Regional Park and was always looking to improve it - most recently with the development of the marina.

Allen believed in service to others. He was a long-standing member of the Cabri Lions Club. He maintained perfect attendance until his health failed. Fundraising through nut drives and supporting eye exam programs provided at the schools were a couple of his standard Lions duties. Allen was also involved in the Lions farming project until “retiring.”

In the last number of years, he took to joining jam sessions with other musicians. He really enjoyed this time of learning, playing music and the camaraderie.

Allen and Brenda put in several winters of “heading south” to see their siblings, Dianne and Marilee, as well as other family and friends, and to enjoy the warm weather, live music, and cervezas. But Allen never wanted to stay too long as David and the farm needed attention.

Allen was most proud of Sherri’s sons, Rhett, and Troy Oakman. They would spend time working in the shop or on the farm, and skied together many years. Allen was cheering for his grandsons during their curling games or other activities, whenever possible. He was looking forward to Rhett’s and Troy’s developing career interests.

Allen would do kind gestures for others, often without them realizing. He wasn’t in it for recognition. He was a good friend to many and had many great friends in return.

Allen is survived by his wife of 55 years, Brenda, daughter, Sherri (sons Rhett & Troy), son, David. Also his loving sister, Dianne Fahselt (Brian Twigg), brother Norman Fahselt (Joan), and family. Allen's in-laws, Marilee Iverson, Mac McKie, and families. Allen had many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family; special mention to cousin Robert, Tanis & Bret Fahselt for continued support and care.

Those wishing to commemorate Allen may consider donating to Cabri Lions Club or Ronald McDonald House.
