On Tuesday, January 28, around 9:30 AM, the Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to a fire in an abandoned house in Avondale. Flames were visible from the main floor window, and crews began fighting the fire from outside. A search confirmed the house was empty, but the fire had spread to the attic, forcing crews to stay outside for safety.

Efforts to control the fire were hampered by multiple void spaces within the structure. Due to unsafe conditions and risks to the community, the decision was made to demolish the house. Thankfully, no injuries occurred. The safety of the crews and the public was the top priority for the Grande Prairie Fire Department.
