Teachers at Strathmore High School received some extra money to help send a student to Europe next year.
According to the school, the teachers received the bursary during a draw at a teacher appreciation event in Edmonton, hosted by EF Educational Tours Canada.
"EF promotes and arranges international travel for high school, and we've run a tour at our school for over 20 years," said Paul Sonsteby, one of the teachers who received the bursary.
According to Sonsteby, the $1,000 bursary will cover about one-fifth of a student's expenses.
"EF is truly about the students. They want to get students out and see the world. As a teacher, your main focus in life is the kids that are in your care and making sure they get a quality education, quality experience, and grow to be good, young people out in the world."
In previous years the school has gone to Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Greece, England, and Africa. The school takes a trip every two years.
Sonsteby has been taking international trips with the students since 2008.
"Our next trip is running in April 2026 and we're still signing up students for it," added Sonsteby. "EF genuinely gets what we're doing for the kids and what these experiences can mean for a kid and how it can change their lives."
The upcoming trip for 2026 will be to Paris and Barcelona.
