Football is an expensive sport. Just look at helmets.
""Helmets are another pricey item, kind of $300 a piece, so we need another $3000-$4000 to cover helmets too."
- Kobras football bottle drive helping fund new equipment
Not only are they expensive, but they also have an expiry date, making it a tough sell for football teams requesting funding. The same argument can be said for sports like hockey with expensive sticks and skates, and the monetary nature behind those sports makes it a lot less accessible than say basketball, or soccer.
I have always been in the camp that in a perfect world, Canada provides every kid in the country a pair of skates. What better way to grow our (sorry lacrosse) national game?
The NFL's Denver Broncos are thinking along the same lines. An amazing gesture from the franchise earlier this week will help football in the state of Colorado become more available, as the team announced they will be providing 15,000+ helmets to every single high school program in the state.
Colorado high schools are ALL IN, and the Broncos have them ALL COVERED.

While a donation of that magnitude is a pipe dream with the CFL, it's exciting to think what pro teams could do for their local area's development.
For now, teams like the Kobras will have to stick to bi-annual bottle drives to keep playing the sport they love.
