Area farmers are being invited to a free lunch, to learn about funding opportunities for their operations.
On Thursday, February 6th, the Seine Rat Roseau Watershed District (SRRWD) is hosting a Regen Ag Day at the Friedensfeld Hall from 10am-3pm, with lunch provided.
“These events are often hosted in the western part of Manitoba, and the distance makes it difficult for our local producers to make it out to a lot of those meetings and tours – so we're bringing those speakers here to our producers in the Southeast.”
This from Virginia Janzen, Regenerative Agriculture Program Coordinator for the SRRWD. She reveals that the SRRWD has a lot of funding opportunities available for farmers, that many producers still may not be aware of.
“We want to get the word our to landowners in the Southeast that we have these opportunities available here at the SRRWD.”
Regen Ag Day 2025 will be a day of learning about regenerative agriculture practices that are being successfully executed here in Manitoba. The day will feature program funding highlights, a Q&A, lunch, and a keynote address from Garry Richards.
Garry and his wife Lynn have a mixed grain and cattle farm near Bangor, Saskatchewan. In 2000, they returned to Garry’s family’s farm, which was a straight grain operation. In 2002, they added beef cattle. In 2003, Garry and Lynn took a Holistic Management course, and in 2009 they began growing cover crops in an effort to become more sustainable. They wanted to measure the changes they were making in the soil as a result of their generative management. They now have plenty of data on what is happening in their soil, and strive to integrate the cattle and grain enterprises on their farm to achieve healthy land, healthy people, and healthy profits.
Regen Ag Day will provide local farmers with a great opportunity to learn about regenerative farming, funding opportunities, and to meet other landowners with real life, relatable experience here in the Southeast.
Regen Ag Day will be held at the Friedensfeld Hall on Thursday, February 6th from 10am-3pm, with lunch provided.
“The event is free, but we ask that you RSVP by calling our office at 204-326-1030, extension 4,” invites Janzen. Producers can also RSVP to administrator@srrwd.ca.
