Steven Curtis Chapman released a new single, "Forever the Love of My Life," all about his wife and just in time for Valentine's Day.
"I started writing a song a while ago for my bride of 40 years (as of this past October! WOW!)," says Chapman. "I finally finished it and played it for her on her birthday back in November…and she liked it…A LOT!"
The couple has three biological children and three adopted girls from China. Chapman and Mary Beth have weathered many storms, including in 2008, when their youngest girl, Maria Sue, was accidentally struck by a vehicle in their driveway, driven by one of their sons. Maria Sue died on the scene.
"We’ve had people tell us that we should share our story," he said in an interview before being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry last year. "We’ve resisted because we’ve both said very clearly in our books that we don’t have it figured out. By the grace of God and trial and error, we’ll go three steps forward and 40 steps back, then 40 steps forward and two steps back."
The single showcases some of the highs and lows the couple have been through, giving praise back to God.
"She gave me permission to share it with all of you, so I decided the “Valentines season” would be a great time to do just that…since “love is in the air”…(wait, isn’t that a song too?) So as an extra gift for my Valentine and the “love of my life” as I’ve called her all these years, I was able to put together a little music video."
