There have been reports of discoloured water in Lakes of Muirfield near Strathmore.
"This is due to higher manganese levels from the recent cold snap. Our water operators have increased chlorine levels to resolve the issue. While the water is safe to drink, you may notice a grey tinge or a chlorine smell," mentioned Wheatland County in a news release.
Staff with the county are encouraging residents to call Rocky View Utility Corp at 403-999-9127 if they continue to experience discolouration or notice an odour in the water.
"A common cause of discoloration is elevated manganese levels, which can occur during colder weather when water near the bottom of reservoirs becomes de-oxygenized. This may cause a grey tinge in the water, but rest assured, the water remains safe to drink. Any noticeable smell is often due to chlorine, which is used to maintain water safety," added the county.
The organization said they will continue to monitor the situation and will provide more details once they become available.
