A second extreme cold warning this week has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
The warning was released as extremely cold wind chill values near -40°C are expected overnight and into Wednesday (Feb. 12) during the morning.
"Wind chill values will moderate through the daytime hours, but extremely cold wind chill values could return overnight and Thursday morning for parts of Alberta," wrote ECCC.
Young children, older adults, people with chronic illness, people working outdoors, and anyone without proper shelter are at greater risk while in the cold.
"Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill," added ECCC. "If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside."
The first extreme cold warning was issued on Sunday night before being removed on Monday afternoon.
