As a part of Monday’s Executive Committee meeting for Humboldt City Council, the Protective Services report was presented.

Director of Protective Services Mike Kwasnica reported that January was a busy month for the Fire Department as they responded to eight incidents. There were also 11 fire inspections.

In the Police report, there were 100 incidents, which was down from the previous month’s (Dec.2024) total of 123 but was an increase from January of 2024 that saw 97 incidents.

Traffic charges were on the rise last month (24), compared to the previous month (22) and an increase from January of 2024 (15).

Kwasnica noted in the Community Safety’s Officer (CSO) report, that the CSO has been dealing with the above normal accumulation of snow with people leaving their vehicles in snowbanks or piled up in snow. Of the six bylaw tickets that were issued last month, two were the result of vehicles being buried in snow. Kwasnica noted that typically before issuing a ticket, residents are issued a warning, followed by a letter before a ticket is issued.
