An incident that occurred on Thursday, February 6 in Humboldt has resulted in a 48-year-old male facing multiple assault charges.

Officers along with local EMS responded to a report of an assault in a business parking lot at around 11:30 pm. 

The investigation determined an adult male was armed with a machete and approached two other males in the parking lot. The two groups did not know each other.

During the altercation, one of the males was injured. He was transported to hospital with injuries described as serious in nature. There is no update on his condition.

The next day (Feb.7), officers located the male suspect in a parked vehicle on a rural property near Humboldt. Officers approached the vehicle and found the suspect was armed with a hatchet. 

The male threatened self-harm and also threatened police. Officers deployed a conducted energy device and the suspect was arrested. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Dominic O'Rourke, a 48-year-old male from Humboldt has been charged with the following: 

  • one count, assault with a weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, assault on peace officer with a weapon, Section 270.01(1)(a), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code 

O'Rourke is scheduled to appear in court in Humboldt on March 3rd.
