Rob Carney - Of course, we know our taxes are going up. Property taxpayers will be paying more in 2025. As a follow-up, let's talk about the landfill. We still don't know where the new one is going to be. But we do have changes at the current landfill, and recycling operations are going to be impacted. The landfill is full.
Maryse Carmichael - It is full. It is full and so we're operating now with contingency space within the landfill. Which means, because we're getting higher and higher, we do not want residents to go up on top of the of the landfill, it will be special crews, it will be our own city crews that will go up. There'll be some changes coming up at the landfill.
With that, because we are at max capacity, we're trying to divert as much as we can from the landfill. That's why we have a facility between the Yara Center and our city complex. There's a facility there for recycling cardboard, glass and all that. We will improve that facility so residents can go there and perhaps have some of the recycling items disposed of right there.
We will also have recycling at the landfill. So, if you arrive and you realize that (your items) should have gone through recycling as opposed to the landfill you'll have an opportunity to do it right there.
Then people will dispose of their garbage, what is destined for the landfill in containers at the bottom as you enter the landfill and then our crews will bring it up to the top of the landfill.
Rob - What if I pull up with an old couch? Am I able to lift it into a container?
Maryse - That will come, we'll have a full communication plan with our residents, we will explain how it will work, but either you'll be able to dump it in, or it's going to go in at ground level.
Rob - Okay, very good. Everybody's got to do their part.
Maryse - When we're talking recycling, that's certainly something for generations to come. It's a small part that we have to do to ensure that we have it (available) for generations.
Rob - And work continues on looking for a new site for our new landfill?
Maryse - Absolutely. We have teams at the city both looking at the various locations and finalizing reports for council.
